Xeric Garden

Many areas of the northern Great Plains are subject to periods of drought. Notably, the western Dakotas receive less rainfall than the eastern half in most years. Xeric plants are well adapted to drier areas. They are low maintenance and require less water once established. Salvia yangii (Russian sage), Echinacea (coneflower), Nepeta (catmint), are Baptisia (false indigo) are examples of xeric plants.
